5 Best Snow Cones in Edmond OK
Someone new to the area recently asked in a local facebook group where to find the best snow cones in Edmond, OK. Not wanting to disappoint, I made it my personal mission to find the very best shaved ice Edmond has to offer. Of course, I needed some help judging these yummy treats, so I enlisted the help of my two kids- aged 6 and almost 4. They happily agreed to help me out.
Where are the best snow cones in Edmond, OK?
If you prefer video over reading, I’ve summarized our experience at 5 of the most recommended snow cone stands in the video below. Otherwise, scroll down to read all about it!
My first stop was to a highly recommended new player in town.
1. Bahama Buck’s
This fabulous little shop just opened in the spring of 2018. They are located in a strip mall on the northeast corner of Kelly and Danforth (map). While Bahama Buck’s is a chain, this shop is locally owned and operated, and the owners are very excited to bring this famous franchise to Edmond, Oklahoma. And they should be. My two children and I agree, this place is FANTASTIC. I asked for their most popular flavor, and the cashier (who was ever-so-kind and helpful) recommended a couple for me to choose from. I picked Butterbeer, and it did not disappoint! It was a cream soda flavored snow cone with cream and caramel drizzled over the top. My kids split a Red Raider snow cone, which reminded me a bit of a mulled cider flavor with citrus, berry, and cinnamon. The ice was super smooth and soft- just like a powdery snow ball. The cream added to mine made for an almost ice cream-like texture. It was delicious!
2. Shimmers
Shimmers Sno Cones has been a local OKC metro favorite for over 10 years, now with 4 locations. The Edmond location on the northwest corner of Danforth and Bryant (map) is one of the stationary year-round locations. And when I asked around for Edmond’s favorite snow cones, this is one name that came up again and again. We tried the snow cones on a triple digit day, and at one point there were 5 different groups at the walk-up window (and always a couple of cars waiting at the drive up window), yet the orders were taken and snow cones distributed very efficiently and always with a smile. No one waited for more than a couple of minutes. Once again, I asked for the most popular flavors, and after hearing 2-3 options I settled on “Cake Boss.” My kids picked cotton candy and grape. While the kids’ snow cones were fairly straightforward, mine was a delightful mix of strawberry cheesecake, wedding cake, and yellow cake batter flavors. Each cone was topped with a gummy bear, which was also very exciting for my kiddos! It’s no wonder this is a local favorite.
3. Paradise Shaved Ice
My third stop was a small snow cone shack on the far north side of town. Paradise Shaved Ice sits next to IB’s gas station and convenience store on the northwest corner of Waterloo and Broadway (map). Most of our friends in north Edmond and south Logan county are probably very familiar with this busy little corner. When I asked about their most popular flavors I was excited to hear the names of a couple of my personal favorites: Tiger’s Blood and Silver Fox. Classics. Each snow cone was topped with a few gummy bears, making the treats that much more enjoyable. My husband, who doesn’t normally go for sweets, joined us for this trip and couldn’t get enough of the Silver Fox!
4. Country Snow
Arguably, my next stop is a little more in the Deer Creek and Piedmont areas, but with so much growth on the west side of the city, I’d be remiss not to mention Country Snow. It’s located on the northwest corner of 178th and MacArthur (map). This place is soooo goood. I was told the most popular kid’s flavor was Rainbow, and then I was given a list of popular adult flavors- many of them modeled after yummy adult beverages. One of the workers strongly recommended the White Russian flavor (non-alcoholic, of course) with a little bit of cream, so that’s what I went with. It was almost like a really refreshing chocolate milkshake. I didn’t want to share with the kiddos! We also added gummy bears to the kids’ Rainbow snow cone and they were generously sprinkled not only on top, but also throughout the inside of the snow cone. This was a VERY hot day, so please ignore the melty goodness on the table in the pic below!
5. Conehedz
Our fifth and final stop was at a popular little shack in south central Edmond. Conehedz is located just south of the corner of 15th and Kelly, on the east side of the road (map). We pulled up just after they opened on another really hot day here in Oklahoma, and we were promptly greeted. Without hesitating, the worker told me her most popular flavors were Cake by the Ocean and Shark Attack. I took one of each, and I thought the presentation of the Shark Attack flavor was especially adorable with a giant gummy shark! Both had a strong pour of blue coconut flavor, so if you’re not into coconut I recommend you try one of their many other unique flavors. They certainly have plenty to choose from! There was some nice music playing from a speaker on the stand while we enjoyed our snow cones at the picnic table by the stand.
So which one is the best?
I wish I could give you a clear answer, but me and my crew all loved different things about each stand. I learned that I really really love adding cream to snow cones, so my favorites are a bit biased due to the flavors I chose with cream at Bahama Buck’s and Country Snow. My kids loved the gummy shark at Conehedz, which made it a little more memorable for them. My son likes to keep things simple, so the one flavor he couldn’t get off of his mind was the grape at Shimmers. And my husband, who never eats sweets, really enjoyed the Silver Fox at Paradise Shaved Ice. So which one was the best? I guess you’ll have to try them all and find out for yourself!
