Things to Do in OKC: The Week of March 1-7, 2019

Last weekend I saw my neighbor outside doing some prep work on their large garden. At first I wondered why he was out there so early in the year. Then I realized it was almost March. How is it March already? I’m not sure, but as the weather continues to warm up, so does the number of events on our calendar.

Take a look at some of the Oklahoma City metro area’s upcoming events and activities for the week ahead.

  • Rhea Lana’s of Edmond Spring/Summer 2019 Event(kids, shopping): Large children’s consignment event all week long. See specific days and times HERE.

Friday, March 1, 2019

  • 10 am – 5 pm: Opening Day for New Kehinde Wiley Portrait at OKCMOA (art): Visit OKCMOA to check out our NEW Kehinde Wiley portrait, “Jacob de Graeff” and celebrate the reopening of our portrait gallery on the second floor. Learn more HERE.
  • 6 – 9 pm: Paseo First Friday Gallery Walk (art, food, music): More than 80 artists in more than 20 businesses participate, all within walking distance. Art opening receptions on Friday night showcase the new work of the gallery/studio owners or the work of guest artists. Many galleries offer light refreshments. Learn more HERE.
  • 6:30 pm: The Jones Assembly presents Jeff Tweedy (music): The Jones Assembly proudly presents Jeff Tweedy live in support of his new solo album, WARM, at the historic Auditorium at the Douglass 3/1. Learn more HERE.
  • 6:30 – 8:30 pm: Seussville at Mustang Parks and Recreation (kids): Join us for a fun filled evening as we celebrate Dr Seuss Birthday! Cat and the Hat, Thing One and Thing Two will all be there for Meet and Greets. This is a come and go event where we will have face painting, games, snacks, and Birthday Cupcakes.   • 6:30 – 10 pm: Chefs’ Feast 2019: Unmask Hunger (food): Enjoy some of the finest cuisines Oklahoma’s premier chefs have to offer at the 2019 Chefs’ Feast. The Mardi Gras-themed event features delicious food, one-of-a-kind auction items, a wine pull, fun music and more. This event benefits the Regional Food Bank’s Food for Kids Programs.   • 7 pm: Disney’s The Little Mermaid by Yukon High School (music, kids): The YHS annual musical brings Disney’s The Little Mermaid to life on stage. Learn more and buy tickets HERE.
  • 7 – 9 pm: Japan Night “Festival 祭り” (food and entertainment): A Japanese Traditional Festival at UCO👘🎇🏮⛩ We have fun activities with amazing prizes, wonderful traditional martial arts +dance +drumming performance, and free food provided. Learn more HERE.
  • 7 – 10 pm: Mardi Gras Masquerade at Water’s Edge Winery (food and drinks): If you can’t do New Orleans, you might as well have some fun with us. Authentic 2019 Mardi Gras Swag & Collectables – Prizes. Wine 🥂(cash bar) and fun 🎉will be served. Learn more HERE.
  • 7:30 pm: OKC Improv Comedy Show (comedy): Weekly on Fri and Sat nights. 7:30 shows stay around a TV-14 rating level. Learn more HERE.
  • 8 – 10 pm: The Sounds of Simon and Garfunkel (music): Theirs was the harmony of a generation. The classic songs of Simon and Garfunkel are elevated through arrangements for orchestra performed by the OKCPHIL. Learn more or purchase tickets HERE.
  • 9:30 pm: OKC Improv Comedy Show (comedy): Weekly on Fri and Sat nights. 9:30 shows are unrated. This is not to say they are dirty, but shows have more freedom. Learn more HERE.

  • 8 – 11 am: March Gathering- a Synergy event (Coffee & Cars):

  • 10 am: American Indian Artists: 20th Century Masters at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum (art): As Lakota artist Oscar Howe wrote in 1958, “There is much more to Indian art, than pretty, stylized pictures.” This exhibition highlights this depth and the 20th century American masters who shaped it.   • 10 am: Storytime Science at Science Museum Oklahoma (kids): 3…2…1.. BLAST OFF! Join us for Storytime Science in KidSpace on Saturday, March 2nd at 10 a.m. We will read “The Berenstain Bears on the Moon” by Stan and Jan Berenstain and experiment with galaxy slime!   • 10 am – 12 pm: Dr. Seuss Day in the Gardens (kids): Let’s celebrate the wonderful life of Dr. Suess together on his birthday! We’ll have everyone’s favorite character, Cat In the Hat, to read stories and tell fun Dr. Seuss facts. Kids can learn from the Lorax about how to take care of our animal and plant friends while visiting our special Oklahoma City Zoo visitors.   • 11 am – 3 pm & 4 – 8 pm: COOP Ale Works 10th Anniversary Party (food and drinks):

  • 12 – 4 pm: Severe Weather Awareness Expo (education): You will get a chance to meet-and-greet station meteorologists from KFOR-TV, KOCO 5 News, KWTV – NEWS 9 and Aaron Tuttle Meteorologist as well as receive weather emergency information from US National Weather Service Norman Oklahoma.   • 12 – 4 pm: Green Bambino’s 9th Birthday Party (shopping): We’ll have birthday goody bags for the first 75 customers to make a purchase plus 15% off storewide.   • 5:30 pm: Kids In The Kitchen- Spring Favs! (kids): This course teaches children the basics in the kitchen. Children will learn how to properly use kitchen utensils and heat.
